For hyperlink cells that do not have an id (or have an empty id, these two are interchangeable), the terminal emulator does some heuristics in figuring out which cells belong together. Here VTE and iTerm2 differ, but from a practical point of view, this difference should not matter. (VTE automatically assigns a new unique id whenever it encounters an OSC 8 with a URI but without id.
